Ameraucana
The Ameraucana was developed in the United States in the 1970s from Araucana chickens brought from Chile. It was bred to retain the unusual blue-egg gene of the Araucana, but eliminate the tufted and rumpless lethal alleles of the parent breed. Over the years, multiple breeds have been crossed to strengthen the genetics and beauty of the Ameraucana also known as an "Easter Egger."
Our chicks have the ability to lay colored eggs of shades varying from pale turquoise to deep olive to shades of pinkish brown. Each bird will typically lay a different shade of colored egg. Adult Ameraucanas are of medium size with pea combs and feathers in a wonderful combination of colors and color patterns. They are extremely hardy and great for any flock. Baby chicks come in all colors, plain and fancy, just like the adults. They have muffs and beards and slate colored legs. This is a unique breed that should be in every flock!
Our chicks are recommended for egg laying color and ability, they are should not be confused with Araucanas.
